The 6 Most Inexpensive Growth Stocks To Buy Now

In Warren Buffett’s 1992 letter to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.B) shareholders, Buffett touches upon a subject at odds with much of the investment industry:

“Most analysts feel they must choose between two approaches customarily thought to be in opposition: ‘value’ and ‘growth.’ Indeed, many investment professionals see any mixing of the two terms as a form of intellectual cross-dressing.

We view that as fuzzy thinking… In our opinion, the two approaches are joined at the hip: Growth is always a component in the calculation of value, constituting a variable whose importance can range from negligible to enormous and whose impact can be negative as well as positive.”

Many investors tend to categorize stocks into value and growth. However, the most successful investors view growth as simply one component of a company’s value as Mr. Buffett explains.

The future outlook for a company is an important aspect when you’re looking at buying a stock. And while value investors would argue that it’s the intrinsic value relative to the current trading price that matters the most, a more compelling investment thesis would be high growth potential at a cheap price.

Therefore, I used finbox.io’s stock screener to see if I could find high growth stocks trading below their intrinsic value.

Top Stocks To Own For 2018

Deutsche Bank’s Paul Trussell writes that Costco Wholesale (COST) is “still head & shoulders above the rest” despite a very tough environment for retailers. He explains why:

Getty Images

Costco’s stock has become a topic of debate in recent months as the post Visa (V) transition period has not yet led to sales lifting back in-line with historical trends. We acknowledge the shortfall vs. expectations but we also highlight the continued outperformance vs. a weakening retail backdrop as Costco consistently produces traffic gains and solid softline & hardline category growth. Food deflation & tobacco exit headwinds likely continue into Spring, but overall compares begin to ease at year-end. Importantly, we see margin tailwinds, steady member growth, strong renewal rates, & fee increases (upcoming in U.S. & recently enact ed International), as downside protection to the P&E.

The battle over net neutrality is about to heat up again.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai on Wednesday said the commission will vote May 18 on a proposal to reverse the Open Internet rules passed two years agoby the FCC.

Those rules, which prevented Internet service providers (ISPs) from throttling or blocking content online, were passed by a Democrat-laden commission led by then Chairman Tom Wheeler. President Obama appointed Wheeler and supported the rules, which invoked Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 to give the FCC authority to oversee ISPs as “common carriers” and the Internet itself as a public utility.

But Pai, a Republican who voted against those rules as a commissioner and was named chairman by President Trump three months ago, says those regulations are heavy-handed, have reduced investment in network expansion and slowed consumer access to faster broadband connections.

With talks about the Opel sellout to PSA Group (OTCPK:PEUGF) (OTCPK:PUGOY) progressing at a rate much faster than I had anticipated, a (likely) deal announcement on Monday will pave the way for new all-time highs.

Who are the likely candidates for the next round of upgrades? Cramer said he’s betting that 3M (MMM) will be in the mix, along with Walmart (WMT) and especially Home Depot (HD) , which should have a strong spring planting season with good comparisons to last year. Investors might also see upgrades on Honeywell (HON) and Nike (NKE) , Cramer suggested.

We saw this pattern with 3M (MMM) , one of my favorite stocks, which got crushed, falling from $177 to $173 because of what the headline writers called a weak consumer-products division. Sure, you can pull a line and see an unexpected decline. But declines do not necessarily mean weakness, which, to me, connotes a failure to have the right product and flagging sales. If you go listen to the conference call, you discover that the weakness had to do with a particularly retailer’s troubles. Sure, you could argue, why do we trust this company? I come back and say, you trust them because CEO Inge Thulin has been money in the bank for years and there’s no reason not to trust him.

Time To Favor Optionality: Most macro data are similar to, or better than, when the merger was announced. As a result, the same returns have been obtainable, with significantly less stress, simply through owning 3M (MMM) or a basket of chemical companies that approximate the Dow-DuPont portfolio. Relative to the chemical sector, performance has been average, leverage appears reasonable but near-term FCF less-than compelling partly due to new capacity ramping. With the merger likely to close in the near-term (90% chance, in our view), we believe Dow-DuPont will have an opportunity to show how scale creates optionality. The overhaul at Celanese (CE) over the past few years shows the way.

Investors looking for brighter prospects should consider two other blue-chip giants, 3M (NYSE:MMM) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ). Both are exposed to the consumer goods industry, but also get significant chunks of sales and profits from faster-growing segments.
