Phillips 66 (PSX) Construction On Bakken/Three Forks Nearly Complete

Dakota Access LLC (DAPS) and Energy Transfer Crude Oil Company, LLC (ETCOP) J.V.s are set to complete construction on substantial pipeline assets connecting the Bakken/Three Fork production center to the Midwest market. The pipeline comes online in the 2nd Quarter 2017 and revenues will hit the books in the 3rd and 4th Quarter as operations ramp up.

Presently nearly half of all production leaves the area by rail car, a transportation method two-to-three times as expensive as a pipeline. The economics practically guarantee these new assets will be roaring at maximum capacity as soon as their operations commence during the quarter.

By applying different what-if scenarios to Walt Disney (DIS), I arrived at a conclusion that a fair value would be more likely in the $85 range. This provides almost a 15% downside.

Before we can apply any valuation metrics to Walt Disney, we need three inputs to start with. These are normalized return on equity (RoE), free cash flow (FCF) and long-term revenue growth. As market expectations are usually way too optimistic (see this for example), I place little relevance on them. The same thing can be said about what management is targeting in the long term. This is why I place more weight on how the company has managed to perform in recent years.

In figures 1-3 below, you can see what kind of FCF-to-sales ratio, RoE and revenue growth Walt Disney has achieved in recent years. The FCF-to-sales ratio has been gradually increasing from 10% level to 15% level during the last decade. However, to be on the safe side, I will be using a 12.0% FCF ratio to sales as a normalized one. This translates into roughly normalized FCF per share of $4.17 ($55632.0 million * 12.0% / 1600.0 million). Assessing a sustainable RoE level is a bit more difficult due to the current low interest rate environment. I will be using the 2016 value of $43265.0 million as the base value for equity. This translates into equity per share value of roughly $27.0 ($43265.0 million / 1600.0 million). This means a 15.4% RoE ($4.17 / $27.0). The growth has been surprisingly stable for more than a decade. For the last 10 years, the growth has been in the 5.0% level so in the analysis we will be using an annual growth of 4.0% and 6.0%.

Advisors’ Opinion:

AMD, along with other server-grade chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm (NSDQ:QCOM), Cavium (NSDQ:CAVM) and AMCC (NSDQ:AMCC), operates in the remaining minuscule 0.8% of the market. So, each of the aforementioned companies operate with a practically non-existent market share, compared to Intels shipments of course. This also means that these firms (AMD, Qualcomm etc.) have plenty of room to grow. This would be subject to good product releases of course, but at least this way, the law of large numbers isnt working against them.

Top 10 Energy Stocks For 2018

On Tuesday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggestedgoing long on small cap energy storage and power delivery stock Maxwell Technologies (NASDAQ: MXWL):

We had to zoom in pretty tight on the chart of MXWL to show you some of the most relevant details. But, know that in so doing we lost some perspective on another key bullish clue. That is, the converging wedge pattern (red lines) extends back several months, so this recent pop above the upper boundary of the pattern is a big deal.

What’s so compelling about the detailed view of the new bullish effort, however, is the fact that as of today the 20-day moving average line is above the 200-day line, and the recent breakout thrust has unfurled on lots of volume.

Also what you can’t see on our chart is just how much room there is for Maxwell Technologies to recover. MXWL was trading in the teens just a couple years ago.

Top 5 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2017: Newfield Exploration Company(NFX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Wednesday was an up-and-down day for the stock market, which lost substantial ground early in the day only to climb back toward the unchanged mark by the end of the session. A slight rise for the Dow Jones Industrials led to yet another record-high close, and although other major market benchmarks weren’t quite as lofty, they nevertheless finished with only modest losses on the day. Generally favorable news and sentiment helped the market bounce back during the day, but some stocks still finished lower. Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX), Global Blood Therapeutics (NASDAQ:GBT), and Nautilus (NYSE:NLS) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Large Caps. Our E&P coverage is pricing in $61/bbl WTI and $3.30 gas, and with a lower crude forecast the group is looking less compelling. We argue names that continue to demonstrate resource improvement at the low-end of the cost curve, namely in the Permian and STACK remain attractive, such as Concho Resources (CXO), Devon Energy (DVN), Newfield Exploration (NFX) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). Noble (NBL) remains a compelling value, though has yet to commit to an accelerated US onshore drilling program.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The large cap E&Ps we cover raised ~ $6.5 billion of equity in 2015 and are likely to consider additional issuance in 2016. Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) raised $1.3 billion on January 5th and Hess Corp. (HES) raised $1.5 billion of equity/equity-linked earlier this month. We think highly leveraged companies such as Devon Energy,Encana andRange Resources (RRC) and companies with a large deficit (before asset sales), such asAnadarko Petroleum and Devon Energy, are most likely to consider raising equity. Additionally, we believe companies such as WPX Energy (WPX), Southwestern Energy (SWN), Marathon Oil, Continental Resources (CLR),Noble Energy and Newfield Exploration (NFX) could issue equity while several levered companies may be unwilling or unable to access equity markets. We do not think Apache, Canadian Natural Resource, EOG Resources (EOG), Occidental Petroleum orPioneer Natural Resources are likely to issue equity this year.

Lear also sees strong “upside potential” forConcho Resources (CXO), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) and Newfield Exploration (NFX) as well performance improves in the Permian/STACK, and also writes positively on Devon Energy (DVN).

Top 5 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2017: NOW Inc.(DNOW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo, Tyler Crowe, and Jason Hall]

Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. That slump came despite OPEC’s best efforts since producing nations have achieved fairly good compliance on their planned output cuts. That said, despite the lackluster oil market, we still see some interestingopportunities in the oil market. Three stocks we really like right now are DistributionNOW(NYSE:DNOW),Phillips 66(NYSE:PSX), andConocoPhillips(NYSE:COP), which all should do well in the current oil market.

Top 5 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2017: Foresight Energy LP(FELP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

The gross profit margin for FORESIGHT ENERGY LP is currently lower than what is desirable, coming in at 33.76%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Regardless of the weak results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of 3.18% is above that of the industry average.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

Despite any intermediate fluctuations, we have only bad news to report on this stock’s performance over the last year: it has tumbled by 83.17%, worse than the S&P 500’s performance. Consistent with the plunge in the stock price, the company’s earnings per share are down 82.85% compared to the year-earlier quarter. Naturally, the overall market trend is bound to be a significant factor. However, in one sense, the stock’s sharp decline last year is a positive for future investors, making it cheaper (in proportion to its earnings over the past year) than most other stocks in its industry. But due to other concerns, we feel the stock is still not a good buy right now.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

After the recent distribution cut, Foresight’s distribution coverage is over 6.0x with much of the future cash flow dedicated to reducing leverage. It has over 80% of its coal sales priced for next year and its costs should improve as the low cost Hillsboro mine comes back into production early next year. It is also benefitting from cost synergies with the Murray operations. We believe Foresight’s new distribution level is sustainable. With its 15.5% yield, we feel FELP could be attractive to income seeking investors.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

The debt-to-equity ratio is very high at 18.59 and currently higher than the industry average, implying increased risk associated with the management of debt levels within the company. To add to this, FELP has a quick ratio of 0.56, this demonstrates the lack of ability of the company to cover short-term liquidity needs.
