Top Safest Stocks To Invest In 2019

As populist parties in Rome mobilize for an early election, Italian assets are once again being scrutinized for stresses that undermine the euro project.

The stakes are high. The anti-establishment politicians vying for leadership in the continent’s second-most indebted country want to boost spending in defiance of European Union budget strictures — and make battle with the entrenched order. As such, fears are growing that the fresh election would effectively constitute a referendum on whether the third-largest economy in the euro area should stay within in the single-currency bloc.

Here are five metrics to watch to gauge fear in the periphery and beyond:

The best gauge of risk in any European bond market is a comparison with yields of Germany, the continent’s safest country to lend money to. Before the recent political flare-up, Italy was paying a premium of just over 1 percent compared to Germany to borrow in euros for 10 years. Now, that gap has more than doubled to 2.7 percent.

LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (OTCMKTS:LVMUY) was upgraded by ValuEngine from a “hold” rating to a “buy” rating in a research report issued on Saturday.

Two years ago, I discussed LVMH (OTCPK:LVMUY) (OTCPK:LVMHF) in another article here on Seeking Alpha. Although I wasnt too impressed with the companys free cash flow yield, I did agree this company deserved a premium valuation. And on top of that, I was expecting its strong growth results to continue in the years ahead. Were now two years later, and LVMH has delivered on every front. Unfortunately the market caught up on that as well, and LVMHs share price has doubled in just two years. And although the LVMH results justify a good performance of the share price, I do think LVMH is getting a little pricey.

At $126, Tiffany trades at about 27 times this year’s earnings estimate — which is a premium valuation relative to the midpoint of its forecast for 12% growth. LVMH (NASDAQOTH:LVMUY), which owns Tiffany’s rival(and Bogliolo’s former employer) Bulgari, trades at just 25 times this year’s earnings — and analysts expect its EPS to jump 16%. Bulgari, like Tiffany, is pivoting away fromits “old world” charms toward edgier marketing campaigns that target younger shoppers.

Facebook apologized on Friday after its autocomplete search feature suggested video titles that described child abuse.

Some Facebook (FB) users who typed “video of” into the platform’s search bar on Thursday night presented with autocomplete suggestions about videos of young girls performing sex acts.

Some users shared screenshots of the search results on Twitter.

“We’re very sorry this happened,” a Facebook spokesperson told CNN. “As soon as we became aware of these offensive predictions we removed them.”

The company said its search predictions represent what people may be searching for but do not necessarily reflect content that is on Facebook.

Facebook says it is investigating how the search suggestions emerged.

“We are looking into why these search predictions appeared, and going forward, we’re working to improve the quality of search predictions,” the spokesperson said. “We do not allow sexually explicit imagery, and we are committed to keeping such content off of our site.”

Top 10 Performing Stocks To Watch Right Now: Galapagos NV(GLPG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Stephen Mack]

Our investing experts have made some tremendous picks over the last several years, outperforming the S&P 500 by 100%, 200%, or even as much as 700% in the case of Money Morning Executive Editor Bill Patalon’s 2012 pick of Galapagos NV (Nasdaq: GLPG).

  • [By Stephen Mack]

Galapagos NV (Nasdaq: GLPG) is our big winner so far, gaining 578.8% since Money Morning Executive Editor Bill Patalon shared his recommendation with Money Morning readers in April 2012. The S&P 500 has gained 75.4% in the same time. Bill has renewed his recommendation for the Belgian biotech several times over the years, saying in 2016 that it has “an established history of piling on gains.” With an average gain of 110% a year, it’s hard to argue with that.

  • [By David Zeiler]

Bill Patalon’s initial stock pick was Galapagos NV (Nasdaq ADR: GLPG), a Belgian biotech company.

Patalon was attracted to Galapagos’ strategy to target “orphan diseases,” afflictions that strike rarely and so often go ignored by the Big Pharma companies. He also liked that Galapagos had more than 50 drug discovery programs underway, and that it already had licensing agreements with several bigger players in the industry.

AMD, along with other server-grade chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm (NSDQ:QCOM), Cavium (NSDQ:CAVM) and AMCC (NSDQ:AMCC), operates in the remaining minuscule 0.8% of the market. So, each of the aforementioned companies operate with a practically non-existent market share, compared to Intels shipments of course. This also means that these firms (AMD, Qualcomm etc.) have plenty of room to grow. This would be subject to good product releases of course, but at least this way, the law of large numbers isnt working against them.

California marijuana legalization is about to create the biggest moneymaking opportunity you’ll ever see…

That’s because cannabis enthusiasts can legally buy recreational marijuana from dispensaries in The Golden State on Jan. 1, 2018. California is just one of eight states that have legalized recreational weed, plus it’s by far the largest.

And it could create a once-in-a-lifetime profit opportunity…

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

For those that are looking to express a more downbeat market view, or looking for a source of funds, we can neutralize our positive S&P 500 outlook and aim to sell stocks that are at risk to underperform on a relative basis. While a rising tide lifts all boats in absolute terms, we found that mega-cap safety is the central theme linking stocks that are at, or nearing, decade-long relative lows vs. the S&P 500: General Electric, Southern (SO), Simon Property Group (SPG), Verizon Communications (VZ), Wal-Mart, ExxonMobil. We see such relative weakness as a sign of vulnerability in their trend.

daily stock market: IPG Photonics Corporation(IPGP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Monday began on a down note for the stock market, as the Dow Jones Industrials fell back down below the 20,000 level. Major market benchmarks finished with losses of 0.6% to 0.8%, and some market commentators attributed the declines to nervousness about the Trump administration’s actions to clamp down on immigration. Others noted that the latest reading of U.S. economic growth showed a 1.9% rise in gross domestic product for the fourth quarter, finishing the year with an overall GDP increase of just 1.6%, down a full percentage point from 2015’s growth. Despite the overall sullen mood in the market, some stocks gained ground, and GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO), Movado Group (NYSE:MOV), and IPG Photonics (NASDAQ:IPGP) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

The current rally of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) is being driven by two things. While investors are viewing these two catalysts as bullish, they are really just temporary solutions.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NASDAQ:VRX) stock facing resistance.

Shares of specialty pharma company Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX)are in a downtrend for more than two months now. Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc stock was down by almost 50% since its Q1 2017 earnings at the end of February. The stock had made a new 52-week low at $8.36 a week back. Since then the stock has been able to make a marginal recovery, gaining more than 10% this week. However, the stock is now facing resistance from its 20-day moving average. Valeant stock had been unable to break out above the resistance line in the past and had continued to slide downwards. The stock is again likely to face strong resistance from the 20-day moving average. The declining volumes over the week indicate that the stock will find it tough to make a bullish crossover, over the 20-day moving average.
